Proverbs 31:21

She is not afraid of the snow for her household:
for all her household are clothed with scarlet.
Proverbs 31:21

I absolutely love this verse!  The Lord used it to speak to my heart many years ago and I'd like to share that with you today.  All too often, we (myself included) are guilty of just reading our Bibles and not really 'searching the Scriptures'.  Jesus Himself is on every single page of His Word. The Scriptures testify of Him.  And all too often we take verses at face value (which is good!) but we don't stop to think about the spiritual application.

Proverbs 31 is a perfect example.  For those of us who look to the woman of Proverbs 31 as our example, we can often miss the forest for the trees.  Take vs 21 for example.  I have heard many teach this verse to mean that the Proverbs 31 woman was not lazy. She made her family warm clothes so that they wouldn't be cold in the winter.  A good character trait but the verse says SO much more than that.

Care to follow me?

"She is not afraid of the snow for her household"....tell me, in what part of the year does it snow?  Yes, the winter.  And tell me, what happens to things in the winter - such as foliage, grass, flowers?  They die.  Could not that same line also mean that she isn't afraid of death in her household?  Certainly.  And the verse goes on to tell us why...

"for all her household are clothed with scarlet." ....Glory!  Tell me, what color is scarlet?  red  What color is blood? red  Revelation 1:5  ...Unto him that loved us, and washed us from our sins in his own blood,...

The Proverbs 31 woman isn't afraid of death for her household because all her household has been clothed in the blood of Jesus Christ!  Hallelujah!

Do you want to be a real Proverbs 31 woman? It goes far deeper than baking homemade bread, wearing dresses and making your own clothing. In truth, I know many godly woman who don't sew or even cook well ;-) Of far greater importance is, does your family know Jesus?   Can you truly say that you are "not afraid of the snow for [your] household"?

Here's a pretty reminder that you can print or set as your desktop background, as I have. It was taken out my front door this morning.  May we all strive to be like that Proverbs 31 woman in spirit as well as deed.
