Let the countdown begin....16 days

Someone pinch me. Only 16 days left in this pregnancy (my guess is less). I am still in awe at the goodness of God in allowing us this miracle. He has worked all things out for good and turned ashes into beauty.  God is good and I am so undeserving.

My family is driving me a little bit crazy with the "how are you feeling?" and "do you think you're going into labor?" questions!  Truth is that I didn't know I was in labor with either of my other pregnancies and I don't anticipate this one to be much different. So, I tell them that when I know, they'll know ;-)  My husband keeps a watchful eye on me, acting like I may explode at any second.  It's actually pretty funny.

A couple of prayer requests:
  • Pray for clear bloodwork. I have been having periods of intense all-over itching which can be associated with a liver problem related to pregnancy. I am currently waiting results.
  • Pray for strength in these last days. I am feeling overwhelmed with my inability to do all that my brain wants to get done!
  • Pray for my children. They all plan to attend this baby's birth.  They want to be there but I also don't want them to be frightened by anything (they are 15/11/11).  I worry about one of them deciding they don't want to be in the room and ending up by themselves in the waiting room. Because of our being at a birth center an hour and fifteen minutes away, it's not likely we'll have anyone around to be with them.  You know how a mama's brain cannot tune out the needs of her children, no matter what is going on at the time!!!
  • Lastly, please pray for a successful and safe VBAC.  The Lord knows that I want to avoid a repeat C-Section if at all possible. Pray specifically for the fear that occasionally takes over my brain and that the peace of God would reign supreme.
Will be updating here just as soon as something happens!

Grace for the journey...

But he giveth more grace....
(Jas 4:6)

Thanking the Lord today for His bountiful grace as we remember our little one, safe in the arms of Jesus. Today would have been his first birthday.  Also looking ahead in remembrance of our second miracle angel, who was due in just a few shorts weeks.  God's grace has been and will continue to be sufficient.

Cast thy burden upon the LORD, and he shall sustain thee:
he shall never suffer the righteous to be moved.
                                                                  (Psa 55:22)

Remembering our angel...

Today marks the due date of our miracle baby...the pregnacy that wasn't supposed to happen...the one that didn't take doctors and medication and procedures - simply a gift....a miracle.....and far too short.  I cannot let the day go by without remembering.  Why God had other plans for this child, I will not know till I see His face.  Still, I trust that His grace will continue to be sufficient and His will is always perfect.

How very softly
you tiptoed into my world.
Almost silently;
Only a moment you stayed.
But what an imprint
Your footprints have left
On our hearts.

Working Together for Good

And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God,
to them who are the called according to his purpose.
Romans 8:28

I have had a dear friend of mine remind me of this verse many times over the past two weeks.  (Two weeks! It's only been two weeks - feels like a lifetime)  To be honest, I haven't wanted to hear it.  Good? How could losing my baby be for my good?  How could it even work for good?  I'm NOT listening!

That is, I wasn't listening....until today. I am beginning to see some good...a little bit.

There is a young lady who has visited our church a couple of times with her husband.  Their family are members of our church but her and her husband go to a different church.  After I miscarried, this lady sent me the sweetest letter, expressing her condolences and telling me that she also believes that she has PCOS and has found some herbal tinctures that have helped her.  At the time, I really didn't want to hear it but this past Saturday, I was able to sit down and talk to her and talk about them.  I explained that I'd like to give them a try and she offered to send me some coupons that she had to make them a little less expensive.

Today in the mail, I received another letter from this dear sister in Christ. She had written to let me know that she was praying for me and that I could expect the herbs to arrive sometime next week. She had ordered them for me!  They were not cheap; I was so overwhelmed.  What adds to this blessing is that I had thousands of dollars of injectible fertility medication in my refrigerator up until several weeks ago. I gave them to someone else who was going through infertility.  Many times over, the accuser has chided me saying, "ya, you gave them away and now look, you have nothing!"  Yet, I knew that God wanted me to give them away.  My husband said, "see, you gave what you had away and God provided something else."  What a blessing!

Another package arrived in the mail today.  A small package.  I almost dreaded opening it.  See, last year I had won a mother's necklace from a friend of mine who makes jewelry.  I had asked her to add the baby's birthstone to it and I knew that is what was waiting inside the package.   I opened it and saw to my surprise that the birthstone was a light blue color....baby blue.  I had known since the beginning this baby would be a boy and in my heart have named him Isaac.  For whatever reason, the Lord wanted us to offer this baby to Him.  Yes, I cried when I put the necklace on but they weren't tears of sadness.  They were tears of being completely overwhelmed at the goodness of God!

I am amazed at what God has done through all of this.  Two days ago, I had a lady ask me how I could have so much strength at such a time as this.  I explained to her that it wasn't my strength, it was the Lord's and was able to give her the plan of salvation. Pray for her please!

My pastor's wife wrote the other day and said something that I've been dwelling on.  She wrote:

"[I] am so thankful that you are praising God through all of this.  God knew you would.  I know He has people He uses to give Him glory so that others will get help."

God knew I would....God KNEW I would.  God trusted me enough to allow me to go through this that I might praise Him.  I didn't even know if I could or would praise Him but God knew.  That blows my mind.   That the Lord has finally become so real in my life that He knew I'd praise Him. How can I help but to feel honored that He would choose me to give Him glory - even if it hurts.

I've learned something about parenting through all of this too.  God the Father knew this would hurt me.  He knew I'd cry.  He knew I'd get angry. Yet for whatever reason, He allowed it for my good.  How much more should we do what is best for our children, even if we know they'll be upset or hurt or angry?  That's real love.  Amazing love.  God is SO very good and fellowship with Him is sweet.

Blessings Amidst Trials...

The night after my miscarriage, 2g7 came into the bedroom with her Bible. She sat down on the bed beside me and began to read to me out of Genesis.  She read the first 17 verses!  Now 2g7 can read but she's behind where "they" say she should be - totally my fault.  Between moving from KY to NC to NH and all the commotion that moving brings and then getting pregnant and morning sickness and then the miscarriage....hey, the girls are behind.  I take full responsibility for it.  So, to have her crawl up beside me and just start reading God's Word totally blessed me.

This sparked a fire in 3g7. She wanted to read her Bible too so she brought her Bible to me and began reading in Genesis as well.  This third little one hates everything to do with "school". She fights and fusses and makes everyone miserable.  She says she can't do it when in reality, she really can!  All the while that she's screaming, "i can't!" , she's doing her schoolwork. It's the craziest thing.  So, her willingly picking up the Word of God and reading from it - reading WELL for me - was amazing to me.

Of course, my husband and I capitalized on the moment by taking them to CBD's website and helping them to pick out new Bibles and some dry hilighters for their Bibles.  Since they came in, 2g7 has been caught on her bunk, shushing everyone around because she's having her "devotional time"!  You want to talk about thrilling a mama?

So, if a love for God's Word is something good that comes out of all this, then praise the Lord.  We've abandoned their textbook reading books in favor of reading the Proverb of the day, verse by verse, around the table.  It's wonderful.

God is good - even in the midst of storms, there are blessings to be found.  When I first realized we'd lost the baby, 1g12 was distraught. She thought that because she'd prayed that our family would become closer, that it was her fault.  I told her that night that God was too kind to take the baby in order to answer her prayer. I explained that if God chose to use this trial to bring our family closer, than I wouldn't regret it for a second.  I meant it then, I mean it now. God is doing wonderful things in our lives. Praise His name!

Joy Cometh in the Morning

Psalm 30:5b "...weeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning."

While I sit here waiting for my "morning" to come, I have found it helpful to write down the events of this last week.  I suppose some people will wonder why and to be honest, I am not entirely sure I can answer that.  Some part of me needs to see it in black and white in order to help me process it all.  Yet another part of me wants to be sure that others know that God is real and He's good and He helps His children through the bad times as well as the good.  For whatever reason, here's my story.

WHY?  that is a word that has run through my mind often these past few days.  Days?  It feels like an eternity but yes, as I sit her typing, it has only been five days since this nightmare began.  I have asked "why" more times than I can count.  "Why God, would you allow us to pray ~our children to pray~ for years for another child, only to miraculously give one and then take it away?"  Why?  My questioning hasn't been with an attitude of charging God foolishly but rather of, "Lord, my heart is breaking.  Please help me to understand."

I anticipate this being a very long entry so let me cut to the chase for those who choose not to read the entire thing.  In only a few short days, I have come to realize that I don't have to know why. This has become a lesson in faith.  Do I really trust God?  Do I really believe God loves me and wants what is best for me?  Do I really believe that God is good, all the time?  Oh, let me say a resounding, "YES!"  Yes, I do.  I trust Jesus with my entire life. I trusted Him to save my soul from hell.  With my whole being, I trust my Savior.

There are people in my life that do not understand how I could have peace at such a time as this.  May I say to you with much love and compassion,  that the reason you don't understand is one of two things. Either you don't know my Jesus in a personal way or you have never had to walk this road so the grace to get through it is not yours.  If you belong to the Lord, the grace will be there when you need it and not one second before.

♫  There will be grace, grace to make it through this trial;
There will be strength, strength to walk another mile;
There will be hope, when I've done all I can;
It's good to know, it's in the Savior's hand.  ♫

Knowing Jesus Christ is about having a personal walk with Him. It's not about your religion or whether you know the right "words" to say or how good of a person you are.  I am nothing outside of Jesus.  Please, if you aren't sure of your relationship with God, read my testimony and ask yourself, "Do I really know Him?"  It's too important of a question not to consider.
Above all, I want my God to get glory out of this trial.  I want others to know there is a peace available that the world cannot offer, but can only be found through Jesus and knowing Him.  I want God to make this trial a blessing and I want Him to one day look at me and say, "well done.".

For those willing to journey with me through this valley, please bare with me.  I'm writing this for myself - out of my own grief - for my heart first - because I need to, but I do  hope that something that is said would be an encouragement or help to others.

---------------------------------------------------------------
We have prayed as a family for another baby for at least 5 years now.  Our twins are now 7.5 and they are the youngest. Given my long history of infertility, we were utterly shocked to see a + pregnancy test in January.  As a family, we praised the Lord for our miracle baby and asked Him for His watch-care over it.
This past Wednesday night (3/3), I went to the restroom to get ready for church.  I noticed I was bleeding and immediately assumed the worst.  I ran upstairs and made a frantic phone call to the midwife I had yet to meet in person.  She was such a God-send.   N. asked me a couple of questions and then told me to go lay down and drink lots of fluids; that it could be any number of things.

Of course, the children had seen me come running up the stairs, tears streaming down my face and knew something was wrong.  I had to explain to them that I thought Jesus might be taking the baby to heaven but that we wouldn't know anything for sure for a while.  Looking back, I wish I could have spared them for a few more hours but given the circumstances, I don't see another way around telling them.  They were crushed. The looks of agony on their faces was far worse to me than anything else.    I asked 2G7 if she wanted to go to church or stay home with me. She sighed and said, "I'll go.  Not because I want to but because I need to."  That blessed my heart.  I asked each of the girls if they'd rather go or stay and each one said they'd go. I was so proud of them - they are learning to have their own walk with the Lord!

Throughout the evening, the bleeding tapered off and by morning was completely gone.  Oh!  I was almost embarrassed for upsetting everyone so!  I called my midwife and she said that we could wait a few more days or go have an ultrasound to see what was going on.  I definitely didn't want to wait so she set me up with an u/s that afternoon.

When we arrived at the hospital, the u/s tech (a father of 7 himself) asked if it'd be ok for another lady to be present during the scan.  She appeared to be a student and looked to be about 4 months pregnant herself.  I told him I didn't mind at all.

The lights were dimmed and the tech started looking around my abdomen.  It seemed like an eternity.  I tried to read his face to my right but it wasn't telling me anything.  Neither was the lady's at the foot of the bed or my husband's to my left.  I finally broke the silence and asked if he'd found the baby.  "Yes."  So, I asked if he'd found a heartbeat and he answered, "that's what I'm looking for."

I still didn't feel the need to panic.  When we had seen the baby's heartbeat two weeks earlier, it was extremely hard to view.  Apparently I have a lot of scarring from my previous c-sections, and that made it difficult. So I assumed he was having the same trouble.

Within moments, he turned the screen towards me and there was my baby...clear as could be.  He was beautiful.  tiny little arms and legs.  What a pretty sight.  I remember thinking what a fantastically clear image it was!  Still nothing was registering as "wrong" in my mind.

The tech was fantastic.  He helped me to process things on my own without just announcing the worst.  He said he had the doppler on the baby and that it would light up red where there was blood flow.  {and a few more seconds passed}  He explained that normally there would be red flashing in the center of the baby...I could clearly see there was not.   He also pointed out there wasn't any "fetal movement".  That hadn't occurred to me just yet.  The baby was just floating; I can't get the image from my mind.  It was then that it sunk in....my baby is gone.

I glanced at the woman at the foot of the bed and she was wiping tears from her eyes.  I looked at my husband, whose color had left his face.  The tech excused himself to call N. (my midwife) and he and the woman left the room.

Left to ourselves, neither of us spoke.  I think we were both shocked; we had fully expected everything to be fine since the bleeding had stopped. There were no words.

The tech came back in and handed me the phone and then left again.  N. was on the other end telling me how sorry she was.  I asked her what was next and she explained my options. I thanked her and hung up.  Suddenly the room felt like it was closing in on me and I told my husband that we needed to get out of there - now!  About that time, the tech came back in and told us how sorry he was and walked us out. I remember feeling his hand on my shoulder as I left.  I so appreciate the degree of compassion he showed towards us.

All I could think about was getting to our vehicle so I could cry in private.  I don't know how many people I passed in the corridor as my head was fixed on the ground, the tears already flowing.  As soon as we got to the car, the floodgates opened.  "Why? Why God, did you allow this?? Why?"   I didn't get an answer to "why"; actually, the only thing I could think of was this chorus:

♪  God wants to hear you sing
When the waves are crashing ’round you
When the fiery darts surround you
When despair is all you see
God wants to hear your voice
When the wisest man has spoken
And says, “Your circumstance is as hopeless as can be”
That’s when God wants to hear you sing  ♪

"Sing, Lord?  Really? You want me to praise you? Now?"  I didn't feel like it, that is for certain.  But then the peace that only God Himself can give flooded my soul.  "THANK YOU GOD for allowing me to get pregnant.  THANK YOU GOD for the ten weeks I got to spend with this child in my womb.  THANK YOU GOD for allowing me the privilege of conceiving naturally.  THANK YOU that Heaven just got a little sweeter.  THANK YOU  that you've brought our family closer through this.  THANK YOU that others will see your glory in this."

The more I praised, the sweeter the peace. Still, the tears kept flowing.

It was a long silent ride home.  We weren't in the door five minutes and I started bleeding again.  I started asking those around me to pray that the process would start quickly.  N. told me it could take 2 days to a week for the miscarriage to start.  I knew I didn't want a d&c (for so many reasons!) but I also couldn't bare the thought of not knowing when it was going to happen.  I very much feared the process.

Late Thursday night, I got out of bed to go have myself a good cry.  I hadn't really had a chance to let the anguish in my heart out because every time I'd cry, my children would look so hurt and helpless. I felt guilty for inflicting so much pain on them.  My husband was carrying his own grief; I couldn't bear the helpless look on his face when he'd see me cry.  So, in the dark of the night, I sat there, calling out to the Lord.  I poured my heart out to Him.  It's one thing to sing "even in the valley, God is good." but it is quite another to experience it first hand.

(I want to add here that while I've been completely tactful in how I write about the m/c process, I also want to forewarn you that I am going to write about it...)

By Friday morning, the bleeding once again had stopped.  I called N. and asked if there were something we could do to get things going.  She had my husband go pick up some blue and black cohosh and prescribed a dosage to be taken once an hour for up to five hours.  An hour after the first dose, the cramping picked up and after the second, I was actively in the process of miscarrying.
I mentioned earlier that I had been very afraid of the process.  I've never had a miscarriage and although I was told what to expect, I still didn't know first hand what to expect.  I feared the unknown.

Some of my sisters in Christ joined me in praying that it would all happen quickly and that God would give me the grace I needed for the process. After the cramping started,  I tried to rest in bed. I wasn't in the bed more than 15 minutes when I felt something 'pop'.  It felt much like when my water broke with 1g12, only not nearly as forceful.  Indeed, I found that is exactly what happened. While I had been full of fear, God suddenly  brought a calm acceptance to my soul.  He is so merciful!

I spent eight and a half hours actively miscarrying this little one.  I never knew it could hurt so badly. The prescription pain medication that I took didn't even dull the pain.  As I sat in the restroom, I kept thinking of the verse in Isaiah 26:3:   Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee   I began to make a conscious effort to keep my mind on the Lord.  I thanked Him again for the baby.  I thanked Him for allowing my body to process this miscarriage naturally.  I thanked Him for His loving presence.  How do people get through trials without Jesus?  I just don't know.

By 1am on Saturday, the pains were coming about every half hour or so and I was able to get some much welcomed rest.  By Saturday morning, the worst was over.

God has seen us through the most difficult days our family has ever experienced.  I never dreamed this would be a path I would walk but if I can help one person by having done so, it won't be for nothing.   I have seen my Savior's heart.  I know He loves me and that His heart is touched with my grief.  Could God have prevented this?  Of course, but for whatever reason, He chose not to.

I trust that my Heavenly Father knows what is best for me and will work it all out for my good.  God is good!  In the happy times and the sad.  He is worthy to be praised - whether we get what we want in this life or not.  God is good...period.  His goodness is not dependent on my feelings or my circumstances.

♫ God is too wise to be mistaken,
God is too good to be unkind;
so when you don't understand,
when you can see His plan,
when you can't trace His hand,
trust His heart.  ♫

There is nothing more that I can do but to continue to trust my Savior's heart in the days ahead. I know they will not be easy, but I just as assuredly know He'll be there to hold my hand.  I continue to ask for prayer for my family, especially for my children.  2G7 lay down beside me last night and started rubbing my belly, as she often does.  I was trying to think of what to say to her when she looked at me and said, "oops, I forgot." and gave me a big hug.  Yes, this is going to be an adjustment for everyone.  Keep us in your prayers and thank you for reading our story.

The Lord is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart;...  Ps. 34:18a

At the time this post was written, this blog was hosted elsewhere.  I want to carry some of the comments over to this blog because they meant so much to me:

*I am so sorry that you have had to suffer this terrible trial but I am thankful that God is strengthening you in His Word and His Peace. It is a wonderful testimony when we can praise God at times like this. Your list of praises is so special. You are right that we always have reasons to praise God. I will be keeping you and your family in my prayers! I appreciate you sharing this.

*God bless you. I've never been through this particular trial, so I cannot imagine what you've been through. But, I do know about God's amazing grace! We serve a truly wonderful God.I have an older brother in Heaven that also died in my mother's womb. Heaven is full of these precious little ones. Can you imagine living forever with Christ not ever having to know the anguish of sin or sadness? How wonderful for these babies. Remember that Heaven is not bound by time and your little one already knows his Momma. I will be praying for you and your family as you learn to live without him. Julie from http://lovelessmomof3.blogspot.com/

*I've wanted to get over here for days, and thank you for your comment. You have been so on my heart since March 3. Life has been crazy busy at my house, with my daughter moving, and we had to take her chickens, modify an outbuilding into a chicken coop, babysit tons, etc.I am so sorry for what you went through. I had the exact same experience about 4 years ago. I learned about it a little differently than you. I had rented one of those home dopplers, and the day it came I excitedly tried to find the baby's heartbeat. Couldn't find it. It was still not occuring me that perhaps there wasn't a heartbeat. I just couldn't find it. I kept getting online to read about home dopplers, and yes, I certainly should be able to find a heartbeat. So I'd go, and try again. I tried and tried. Suddenly it hit me. I called my Dr., and got right in. I was alone, just me and the ultrasound tech. I saw this baby so perfectly, just like you did. So still. No movement. It's a heartwrenching thing to go through. The children were heartbroken, we were heartbroken. Who can understand? But we leave it with God. And He does bring grace and lead us through the dark places  .Praying for you …Because He lives,Deb Turner, (Pattycake)

*Still praying fervently for you! "Oops, I forgot"- Oh, what a sweetie! I felt so bad for my children during/after our latest miscarriage, they are so sweet and young and tender…In Him- Ali

Remembering...

It's been nearly four years since Missey passed away.    Four years since one family's life was changed forever and an entire community of friends and acquaintances mourned.    Missey died during what should have been a routine c-section.  I often wonder how her family is doing these days.  If someone is in contact with Tom, please tell him that he and his children are still very much prayed for and loved.

With the news that we are expecting #4, also came the fear of the unknown.  Missey's death changed my view of pregnancy and birth, of life, forever.  I battle fear - fear of another c-section, fear of a vbac. Fear.  But God isn't the author of fear, the devil is.

There is a lovely lady who writes at Homeschooling from the Heart.  Nearly four years ago, she commented on Missey's passing with a gentle reminder that the grace God gives for this trial belongs to Missey's family, not to all who were touched by her life and subsequent death.  She goes on to remind us that we can rest assured that if the unthinkable were to happen in our lives, God's grace would be available to us, as His children, as well.

I love this quote by Patty:  In your living life to the fullest -- go ahead.  Life is sweet -- family is beautiful.  God invented that.  In holding loosely, simply go to Him.  Ask Him to help you, come what may.  And expect that things will likely just move along -- but also expect that if they do not stay status quo, HIS GRACE WILL BE THERE.

You can read the post in its entirety HERE

GRACE: Five little letters that mean so much.  Grace....

ETA:  Just a couple of hours after this entry, I began to miscarry our fourth child.  Never, in a million years did I expect that.   You know what?  God's grace was there, waiting for me....

And Then There was Morning Sickness

Confession time...I have never understood what all the moaning and groaning was about pregnancy. There, I said it. See, I've always had easy pregnancies - no sickness, varicose veins, and all the other battle scars that come along with being pregnant. Not me. Actually, I have always secretly thought that those who grumbled a lot really just needed to suck it up and show a little fortitude. ~smile~ That is, until the past week.

Oh dear. What is this thing called "morning" sickness? I mean, really? About a week ago, I started having "later in the evening" nausea. Ok, I can deal with that. Then my "evening" turned to mid-afternoon. Yup, I can just go to bed a little earlier. Nooooo problem! This morning, however, I woke up to the immediate feeling that it was going to be a very long day. I had a stand-off or two with the garbage can, willing myself not to do what my stomach really wanted to. See, one thing everyone that knows me well, knows for certain about me - I'd rather DIE than puke. True enough. "Lord, take me home! Just don't let me throw up!"

So, it's a little dance I'm doing this morning, as I prepare a turkey and all the fixin's for company coming at 5. Sucking down the papaya enzyme like a child refusing to share her M&M's. They're MINE - all mine! Deep cleansing breaths; let's walk away from food prep and think on something else. Ugh. Morning sickness.

On the bright side, surely this baby must be growing properly for me to be feeling increasingly ill. Ah, the silver lining. Silver is a much prettier color than green. U/S tomorrow!

The Monster in my Sidebar

As an newly pregnant, obsessed mother-to-be would do, I put a baby ticker on my side-bar. I'm sure you've noticed it; how could you not? What on earth is up with that little alien looking thing? Is it me, or does it perpetually look like it's sticking it's tongue out? It's starting to freak me out! lol Surely I'm not gestating a monster, right? This isn't a sign of things to come, is it? Let's hope not :)

I haven't updated about my first ultrasound on Monday. I didn't forget - I'm avoiding it. I've been teetering somewhere between fear and faith. It's quite a tightrope walk. We did see something in there on Monday - one something. The tech was able to clearly see a gestational sac and a yolk sac but no fetal pole or heartbeat.

They say it's normal for this early on. They say I am just not as far along as I think. They tell me not to worry about it; things are fine.

I know that with the twins, I was several days earlier along and saw both their heartbeats. I know it would be impossible for me to not be as far along as I think I am. And I know there is absolutely nothing I can do about it.

I can't comprehend why the Lord would give us such a miracle only to take it away and yet I also know that His ways are sovereign. I trust Him with my future and with this baby's future. Yet there are moments when I am completely overwhelmed by my own fear.

We have another scan a week from tomorrow. I don't know if I'm dreading it or I can't wait....still on that tightrope!

The LORD is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? the LORD is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?

An Update

I was just thinking that I never updated with my fourth and final beta result! So, I had that done on Tuesday (2/2) and it was 1474. I have to say I was disappointed because it hadn't quite doubled but the nurse told me it was completely fine. So, I'm trying to believe her!

It's been a rough week! I was in the ER yesterday for cardiac issues. All day Wednesday and Thursday, I kept having periods where my heart felt like it was skipping beats (a lot of them!) and I'd get light-headed. I made an appt with the dr. today but by early evening last night, I was too freaked out to wait.

The ER dr. did a quick EKG and listened to my heart. He said he thought he heard mitral valve prolapse but it was no big deal. Uh....YES, it is a big deal. That was it. He told me to come back this morning for blood work and that he was going to set me up with an event monitor to wear for 2 wks. I'm glad for that.

I've just been feeling terrible and I'm not sure what to chalk up to pregnancy (combined with being advanced maternal age! HA!), what is a cold or illness coming on, what is due to the progesterone I'm taking and what is a legitimate concern involving my heart. It's been hard. I find myself often being confronted by my own fears and anxiety and I'm not normally like that. So, if you're reading and you pray, I'd appreciate being included in those prayers!

My u/s is Monday at 10:30; I'm praying we get to see the heartbeat :)

The Story Behind the Journey

I thought I'd share with you the story behind this pregnancy. For those who know me well, it'll be old news. However, the reminder of just how good and faithful the Lord is should never get old!
I've been married to my pastor/husband for the past 17.5 years and we have faced the battle of infertility throughout those years.

The Lord graciously allowed us to see fertility specialists along the way and as a result, our first daughter was born in '97 and our twins were born in '02.

God made us a promise though - through circumstances too personal and precious to me - I will just say that God told both my husband and myself that He would one day give us another child without the assistance of modern medicine. That promise was made almost eleven years ago.
I would be lying if I said that I never doubted, especially in these past three years. The older I get, the more I began to question, "was that REALLY you God?"; "did I misunderstand?" As sure as I am of my salvation, that is the same surety I had of the answer to those questions. I know my Shepherd's voice! Praise the Lord!

So, while others may take a positive pregnancy test for granted, it is a treasure to me. This baby is God's promise fulfilled! It is His divine hand working in our lives and reminding us that He always keeps His promises!!!

I stand amazed....I am no more worthy/unworthy or deserving/undeserving than I was last month or last year or ten years ago. It is the Lord's mercy and His grace that we have been blessed in such a way. God is faithful!

Second Beta Results

I'm so happy/relieved/excited to say that my beta numbers ***more than doubled*** from Monday!!! They are now at 176. What a blessing. The nurse had told me that they don't really expect beta #'s to double as that is a 100% rise. They simply look for at least 66%. So, more than doubling is awesome!
Tonight was night 2 of numerous middle of the night trips to the potty, which not only interrupts sleep but leaves me feeling like there's no point in going back to bed. You know what though? I'll take it! Whooohooo for having to pee! lol

God is so Good!

I realized a little while ago that I actually have people who read this blog! lol I thought I was alone in my little piece of cyberland. Apparently, while I was deciding whether to stay at HSB or switch over to blogger, people were in the background, waiting for my next post. Who knew?

First Beta Results are In!

For the obsessive ~smile~, my hcg levels at 15dpo were 84.5. The nurse at my RE's office says that they are good. However, she did also say that women who have had multiple c-sections are at increased risk for ectopic pregnancy. I didn't know that and I've had two c/s. So, I have to repeat my labs every other day for two weeks. The upside of this is that as long as the numbers increase as they should, I'll get an ultrasound at six weeks!
Prayers for peace during this waiting period would surely be appreciated.
I'll leave you with a picture of our youngest, who announced our pregnancy at church in this fashion:

The Journey: Week 4

Four weeks! lol Most people don't even know they're pregnant at this point. That's where obsession gets you. Everyone on earth knows we're expecting and the inevitable question is, "How far along are you?" To which my answer has been, "Barely". I feel kinda foolish saying, "four weeks".

This morning at church, my husband told the congregation that we were doing our part to help the church grow and that we were expecting a baby. I never knew Baptists could hoot, holler, whistle and clap in church! Especially not Baptists in the northeast! lol We are blessed with a wonderful congregation who have welcomed us in as family since day 1. They couldn't be happier for us.

I go in at 8:30am for my beta but I'm not sure when I will have the results. Hopefully sooner than later and that it's a good one!

For the obsessive, the only pregnancy "symptoms" that I'm having is nausea and hunger at the same time and middle of the night trips to the potty. In both of my previous pregnancies, I never experienced more than moderate nausea (aka, morning sickness) and I am certainly praying that this one will follow suit.

So, until next time....
